That innate desire to see a thing

Understanding the importance of the face profile involves talking about a variety of disciplines, from medicine and biology to art and social sciences. Each field interprets the face profile in its own way, which contributes to a holistic understanding of its meaning.

For me, as a photographer, the face profile is a significant and lasting element in the representation of individuals. I find that profiles turn out to be deeper and more revealing of personality than classic frontal portraits for many reasons.

Like the ancient Egyptian artists who adopted that "two-dimensionality" in the profile in an attempt to provide the most representative aspects of each person instead of trying to create images that replicated the real world; I too like to see the silhouette of the face where almost nothing is hidden; Throughout my time photographing profiles I have discovered that people feel more comfortable when photographed from the front than when they expose their profile, as if there were a facial feature they did not want to show, perhaps in an attempt to hide their true self, but once I have gained their trust and explained my philosophy on profiles and they feel comfortable, the powerful possibility opens up to transmit identity, symbolism, emotion and aesthetic beauty, as in those coins that reveal the serenity and bearing of the heroes.

The profiles of the face are "the most immediately recognizable and identifiable form of the character and temperament of the person."
